Donating the Winter Dares care packages

In December, we raised over $1300 through our Winter Dares fundraiser on GoFundMe. With that money, we are able to create 60 care packages and purchase non-perishable food items to go to shelters!

In selecting these items, we took into consideration the needs of the shelter and sought to find cost-effective ways of securing the items, so that the fundraiser amount can be used to create as many high-quality care packages as possible. We created two package types. In one care package, we gathered 7 personal hygiene items into a drawstring bag: shampoo, soap, package of wet wipes, toothbrush, toothpaste, vaseline, and a towel. In another care package, we gathered 6 items to help individuals deal with the bitter winter cold: a pair of gloves, hat, neck warmers, pair of socks, feet warmers and hand warmers. Aside from the 60 care packages, we also purchased $150 non-perishable food items.

To assemble the packages, Blankets for T.O. met up on campus at the University of Toronto Scarborough. With the executive team members taking the lead, we also invited our general members to come out and lend a hand. That same night, we donated half the care packages to Homes First in Scarborough! The remaining packages will be donated to another shelter in Brampton.
